Roadtrip Day Three...

Jason looking chipper the morning of our third day on the road...
Snoozing Chase Baby
Snoozing Bubs...
The ice accumulation continued to grow as we drove through the freezing midwest...
Chase letting it all hang out as we stopped to fill up for gas.
Colby has been very into animals lately and really enjoyed this animal book. This picture cracks me up, the way he's holding the book reminds me of how an adult might hold a newspaper...
The highway that went between Indiana and Illinois was completely shut down because they had over 15 accidents in less than 30 miles due to the ice. Praise God for keeping us safe on those scary roads and thank God for the nice gas station attendant who told us a backway to get into Illinois without losing too much time...
This is Colby's favorite book, it is full of nursery rhymes (don't ask me how many I have memorized, it is a little pathetic!). Colby's 'reading' has put this book through the ringer (I've had to super glue the binding three times). By the end of the roadtrip the front cover ripped off completely. It looks a little rough but anyone who sees this book can see it is well loved!
Poor Chase, he has had enough of this driving. This picture just breaks my heart!
Hooray! We made it to Missouri! A state that holds many memories for Jason and I. Jason went to a junior college just outside of St. Louis on a baseball scholarship and I went to nursing school in Liberty, Missouri (just outside of Kansas City).
You know you've reached St. Louis when you see that giant arch!
Poor Colby, day three was tough on us all...
We eventually made it to Raytown to see Anna. We were making better time than we anticipated so we were able to stay for a little while. It was awesome to meet Noah,
what a charmer!
Here is Anna holding Chase. Fortunately she is used to handling round babies so she had no trouble holding Chase at all!
Noah was such a gracious and friendly host. Colby on the other hand was very cautious and not too certain of this new friend...
Noah was very interested in Colby and for a few minutes Colby tried to play along...
It wasn't until Noah let out a squeal of delight that Colby went off the deep end. He was terrified of this friendly little creature...
Poor little Noah, he was just trying to be nice. Colby wasn't having any of it.
Noah attempted to make friends with Chase who was just as testy as his big brother...
All of that rejection and still a smile on his face. What a trooper. I love you Noah and I know those boys will love you someday too!
A quick group picture and we hit the road again. It was early afternoon and after such an awful day we decided to press on. The novelty of this roadtrip was quickly wearing off and we were ready to get home. There was also supposed to be some bad weather coming into Kansas the next morning so we wanted to get a jump on it. I was so thankful that we could at least stop in and see Anna and Noah. Thanks for hosting us Anna and I'm so sorry my boys were in such horrible moods!
Now for the hardest part of the trip...Kansas. Nothing like flat and boring Kansas to make 400 miles feel like 8,000!
We really lucked out and found a cool hotel in Topeka. It was a little outdated but very unique and a lot nicer than the places we had been staying... We were on the 6th floor and had a really nice view (although there isn't much to see, we were in Topeka, Kansas after all!).

We decided to splurge and get chinese take out. Colby LOVED the egg rolls. Jason and I were laughing so hard watching him work on this giant egg roll. Nothing would do but he wanted to hold it himself. It made a mess but was worth it, he sure enjoyed that thing! The pool at this hotel was just amazing. Unfortunately Colby was too tired and cranky to appreciate it. He is so sensitive to loud noises so the waterfalls in the pool really frightened him. He also had a bit of a chill so he did not want any part of this pool.
Chase on the other hand LOVED it, he loved the noise and the temperature didn't bother him one bit. So Jason stayed with Chase in the pool while I held Colby in the hot tub.

The lighting in the pool area was very dark so it was hard to get the right exposure. I think it's so interesting that the colors look black and white eventhough they weren't altered, that is just the way the picture turned out. The warm water really helped to calm Colby down, immediately his body relaxed and we just snuggled in the hot tub. I love this picture because you can see our whole family enjoying the pool. We had the entire area all to ourselves. It was such a great and relaxing way to end a very stressful day.

Chase and Daddy enjoying the pool. Chase is such a trooper and so mellow.
He absolutely loved the water.
