We have been thinking about getting a dog for a few weeks now and when Jason and I 'think' about doing anything it quickly turns into an obsession until we accomplish whatever we were 'thinking' about. So, our search for the perfect dog quickly escalated. On Sunday morning we drove to Colorado Springs to meet someone to look at puppies. It was a disaster, she was so sketchy! The dogs were super timid and afraid of being touched and were dirty. You could tell she didn't care about them. I called a few different people throughout the day on Sunday and Sunday afternoon I spoke with a breeder in Julesberg, Colorado. She explained she had two dogs...one was an 18 month old who was just too mellow to be a show dog, the other was a 10 week old puppy. We were thrilled to hear about this 18 month old dog. Mellow and lazy was exactly what we were hoping to find! And a dog that was getting out of his puppy stage sounded perfect! So, we made the last minute drive to the Colorado/Nebraska border. My parents were kind enough to watch the boys for us. It was actually really fun to spend that amount of time in the car with Jason. The last time we did a roadtrip with just the two of us was when we were newlyweds and we moved to NC. We arrived around 7:15pm and found ourselves in German Shepherd heaven. The dogs were amazing. She brought the older one from Germany herself and he was amazing, just as mellow and lazy as she told us. He was absolutely beautiful too. The puppy was a doll, who can resist a little fluff ball??? What was so endearing about him was how he never left her side. She called him her pocket puppy. He absolutely thrived on affection and attention and was very mellow too. When we left Castle Rock Jason said, you know we're coming home with a dog right? The 208 mile journey was not just to look! Which one did we choose...you'll have to stay tuned to find out! :D
