Girls Night OUT!!

I have worked on the hematology/oncology floor at Children's since March of 2008 but between kids and Jason and life I have not been able to hang out with anyone outside of work. I decided that HAS to change. I work with some incredible people and always have a blast when I'm with them so I decided to go to Canvas and Coctails for a fundraiser benefiting the Bereavement committee on our floor. It was a blast. It was so fun to paint and hang out with some of my favorite friends!

Colby's First Dentist Appointment!!

Getting some X-Rays!

Colby chipped his tooth when he was 14 months old while crawling on the tiled floor at our townhouse. We were in North Carolina at the time and we took him to see a pediatric dentist. The pediatric dentists are a little different there than they are here and other than coaxing and talking to kids if the child wasn't able to lay still than they just strapped them down to the table to get the work done. That did not fly with Colby and in someways I feel like he is still traumatized from that experience today. Now that he's three we decided it's time to start visiting the dentist regularly. I had no clue how it was going to go. They were great! He cooperated enough to let them get a good look at his chipped tooth and some Xrays (all show that it's fine and the dentist recommended just leaving it be until it falls out or starts to bother Colby). He wasn't quite ready to do a cleaning so they doctor just painted some fluoride on his teeth and sent him on his way. It was kind of crazy because I brought Chasey too and entertaining him while encouraging Colby was a challenge but we did it and I was able to cross something off the list!

Beautiful Late Summer Day

Our yard has come a long way since we moved into this house, it is still a work in progress but for the first time we're starting to see more green than dirt! This is also a picture of our swing set (or as the boys call it, our park). We were blessed to have this swing set given to us by a really nice family we met through Craigslist. This has really been a fun addition to our yard. It took a few months but now both boys can climb up and go down the slide on their own! (The swings are flipped on the top because Bauer chews on them. ) Now if we could only teach the boys how to pump on the swings they would never come in!

Bauer, our fabulous dog. While he has not made getting the yard in decent condition any easier (pulling up new sod, digging out our bushes and breaking branches off of our trees) he has been a fun addition to our family.

While Colby was at preschool, Chasey and I went to the local fire department to ask about getting a fire truck at the boy's birthday party. For all those moms out there...it's FREE!! The firemen want kids to be comfortable around them in case of an emergency so they are always happy to make appearances at parties. Chase had a blast and we were added to the list!

Grown Up Colby!

We had the boy's two and three year old pictures taken and it was the first totally sucessful photo session we've had. Chasey is still a little hard to capture (because sitting still is impossible for Chasey, who is always hopping in place or running) but we got a few good ones.

Bauer the Wonderdog...

The boys and Bauer went missing for a few minutes, the house became quiet and I knew just where they escaped to...the garage, to get into the car and go for a spin. Bauer reminds me of that kid's book about Carl the dog who would babysit the baby while the parents were away. I am so lucky to have Bauer the wonderdog!

This picture makes me laugh everytime I see it, it totally looks like a paparazi photo! Here we have it, Bauer the dog is taking Colby and Chasey Weber out for a spin without parents present. Time for some doggie rehab!

Special Delivery...Love, Rose

We just love Rose! She is one of my mom's dearest friends and someone I have always adored. She spoiled me rotten as a little girl and continues the cycle with my boys. Her packages are always a highlight! Here are a few pictures of Colby opening his birthday package. Thank you Rose! We love you!

Happy 3rd Birthday Colby!

It's hard to believe that three years ago Colby was just 8 pounds 4 ounces and 19 inches long. At his well check he was 40 pounds and 40 inches!

I remember when they whisked him to the NICU immediately after he was born. It was one of the scariest days of both Jason and my life. Fortunately after 24 hours they gave him a clean bill of health and we got to take him home!

He has been nothing but a blessing to us since the day he was born.

We can't wait to see what God's plans are for him, we know it is something special!

Colby loves Birthdays!!

This was the celebration with Daddy the night before Colby's birthday. Daddy had to work the next evening but wanted to be a part of the cake celebration so we had two!

Chasey just couldn't wait any longer, he decided to climb up on the table to check it out himself!

To Colby: We love you, you make our lives full of happiness. Your sweet affectionate personality is a blessing everyday. We love to watch how you cautiously explore the world and quietly make your place within it. You are so observant and a quick learner. We love you so very much!
Now that Colby is Three...
Some of his likes: Trains (it is more of an obsession), Thomas is his favorite. He also loves his Piggy stuffed animal (the one that goes with the book, When you give a pig a pancake). He takes her everywhere and loves to be tucked in with her at night and naps. He loves kitties and of course his dog, Bauer. He likes to eat pizza and chicken nuglets (nuggets), he is a sweets lover and makes the most out of cookies and chocolate, he also loves fruit snacks. yogurt and watermelon. His favorite restaurant is Chick-A-Le (Chick Fil A) and he is still crazy about Dan Dan. He loves to sing and enjoys going to preschool. His best friend is Chasey. His favorite color is blue and his favorite number is 8. At bedtime he likes to sing his special song, say prayers and stall by having me sing as many songs as he can come up with.
Dislikes: Chicken (anyway mommy cooks it except if it's chicken nuglets), tomatoes and strawberries. He doesn't like to share with his brother but will with anyone else in the world.
Speech: His preschool teachers had an emergency meeting with me because they were concerned Colby couldn't speak. While he talks in paragraphs at home he has never said more than two words a day at preschool (they also told me he is too passive, giving others the toys he's playing with rather than holding his own and continuing to play with it - I on the other hand do not think that is a problem at all! He can certainly hold his own with his brother!). So while he's very shy at school and gym daycare he talks non-stop at home. He can sing his ABC's, Twinkle Twinkle, and Mary Had a Little Lamb are some of his favorite songs. He can recognize all of his letters and knows what noise they make. He has started saying, "Hey mommy, guess what..." He knows all of his classmates names at preschool, knows the name of the street we live on and almost has my phone number memorized.
Motor: He is still 'Cautious Colby' in ever sense of the word but he has started climbing the tower and going down our slide on his own! He loves to run "fast like Dash" and loves to jump too. He is a sports nut (I wonder where he gets that!) and while golf (gof) is his favorite he still loves basketball and football and baseball as well. He has recently shown an interest in lacrosse as well.
Potty Training: I think he is more ready for it than I am. On days I remind him to go he does fine but if I don't say anything and he is wearing a diaper he is still happy to go in his diaper. He will pee or poo on the potty on demand though and I'm sure if I was a little more motivated he would have it down in no time. I'm not there yet, I still prefer to choose when I change him rather than rush him to the nearest restroom every half hour. I'm kind of stalling and hoping I can just get Chasey trained at the same time, I'll give another update in a year or so :D
That's Colby Joshua in a nutshell. He is becoming a little person and has a three year old  'tude (everyone that warned me it was worse than 2 was right!) at the same time it is exciting to see his individual personality emerge and get to know him even better.
